  Circolo della Stampa - Sporting and its tournaments

Circolo della Stampa – Sporting is one of the most prestigious Italian tennis clubs with a long and important sportive tradition.

Located into a green oasis in the middle of Turin, near the old Comunale stadium, the tennis club has more than 2000 members, has 23 clay courts (6 indoor permanently), 4 hard courts, a central court with an amphitheatre tribune for about 4000 people, the only one in Italy, where in the past high level tennis matches have been played: 6 Davis Cups, a Federation Cup final, one Universiade, one Internazionali d’Italia and some Campionati Italiani Assoluti. In 1998 a men’s Futures $10,000 has been played at Sporting.

Moreover for sixteen years, until 2001, Circolo della Stampa – Sporting has organized “Sporting Under 16”, a men and women International Tournament under 16, that during the years reached an important place in the competitive field regarding this category, and that for the quality of the organization has received by ETA (European Tennis Association) the award of first tournament in Europe and second in the world after the famous Orange Bowl of Miami.
Every year the tournament gathered about forty nations participant for a total of 180 athletes, whose hospitality was totally charged to Circolo della Stampa.

The roll of honor of the tournament includes some very prestigious names of the top professional tennis world such as Lindsay Davenport and Arnaud Di Pasquale, other than Guillermo Coria, Thomas Enqvist, Magnus Norman, Thomas Johansson, Mark Philippoussis, Lleyton Hewitt, David Nalbandian, Marcelo Rios, Mariano Zabaleta, Helen Dementieva, Helen Dokic, Renzo Furlan and many others.

In 2002, because of the lowering of the technical level of the participants to the juvenile tournaments, the Board of Directors of Circolo della Stampa-Sporting has deliberated to abandon the organization of the International Tournament Under 16 for the choice of a tournament belonging to the professional tennis world, in particular, to the Challenger category with a prize money of $ 25.000.

Since 2007, year of celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Circolo della Stampa – Sporting, the prize money has been raised to $ 100,000.
